Congratulations to Jazz 1 for getting Unanimous Superior and 8th Place overall at the
Reno Jazz Festival on April 25th! Quin Somers, Jessen Maldanado, Conor Mack and Molly Phelan were all given solo awards. Way to go!!

SJMS STUDENTS PERFORM IN HONOR BAND
We had 8 musicians from SJMS that were among the 80 youths who gathered Saturday at the Ross School to play a concert as part of the Marin Music Educators Association's Honor Band and Honor Orchestra. We are looking for a few good people to help with some important upcoming events! Here are the positions and their descriptions. Please contact Leann Phelan asap if you are interested!
Fall Fling Coordinator - Oversee a committee of volunteers to carry out plans for this performing arts community-wide event. Produce Chili cook off entry forms and flyers (last year's format can be reused) to be handed out by teachers to their students to bring home. Promote event on SJMS E-news, performing arts email lists and on the sjmsperformingarts.com website. Produce online sign up for volunteers (past online sign up available to use).
Also needed for Fall Fling - a committee of volunteers responsible for the following -- collect chili cook off entry forms, setup, clean up, collect and setup power cords for chili pots, manage chili ticket sales at event, manage table for cornbread and water bottles, help manage schedule of student performances, purchase chili cook off prizes and general event help.
Spring Fling Coordinator - Two separate spring concert dates (5/27, 5/28). Two people can share this job. Support Benedetta in supplying volunteers to help collect and assemble raffle baskets from each featured band. Also send an online sign up for volunteers to help set up before and to sell donated baked items during the event (past online sign up available to use). Promote event on SJMS E-news, performing arts email lists and on the sjmsperformingarts.com website.
Bingo Night Coordinator - Oversee a committee of volunteers to carry out plans for this performing arts community wide event. Send an online sign up for volunteers to help set up before, compile bingo prizes, manage prize table, manage bingo sales and sell pizza, salad, baked goods and water (past online sign up available to use). Promote event on SJMS E-news, performing arts email lists and on the sjmsperformingarts.com website.
The SJMS Concert Band had a great time in Disneyland, learning first hand what it's like to be a professional session musician learning and playing film scores in the secret studios in Disneyland's back lot. Oh and riding all the rides till they dropped was pretty fun too!
Jazz 1 will be performing at Folsom Jazz on Saturday, January 25th. Parents can purchase their wristbands at both venues. Their performance will take place at Folsom High School at 9:15am with a warmup in the gym a half hour before. A clinic will follow the performance. The top 3 middle school bands will play in the finals later that day. Two info sheets have been sent home with an overview of times/places and a map to the two venues. See links below for more information including a map and schedule.
Drivers will be needed to get our students to Sonoma State leaving by 11am Friday, January 31st. In order to drive any students, you will need to be an NUSD authorized driver. If you have not yet completed the necessary paperwork to be one, please send it in asap as it takes a couple of weeks to be processed. You will need a copy of your driving record, which can be obtained online and printed at home. Go to this link: Driving Record

SANTA CRUZ JAZZ FESTIVAL
Schedules and maps can be found on the website (Performance times TBD - see link below). Wristbands for students will be handed out in front of the Crocker Theatre box office. We recommend that you bring your own lunch. There is a chance that we will play a command performance later that evening. If you choose to stay the night in Santa Cruz, Ms D and a few families are staying at the Holiday Inn Express 1410 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz at (831) 466-9100. For those who stay the night, a group will organize a visit to the Boardwalk on Sunday.

The Delta Jazz Festival December 7th San Joaquin Delta College
We are meeting in the morning at 9:30 so we can listen to many of the middle school groups, have lunch, then warm up and play. there will be a clinic after the performance, followed by photos.
Our performance time is 1:25 p.m. in the Atherton Auditorium. Warmup is in Locke 108 There are many bands to listen to, so please arrive no later than 9:30 to be able to hear the other Middle Schools.
There is a snack bar for lunch if you do not bring food from home.
Awards will be in the Atherton Auditorium at 5:15 (hopefully we place) Festival tickets are 10.00 general admission at the box office. Students who perform are already paid for.
East on 80.... Take the Rio Vista exit... Travel on this road to 5
South on 5... March Lane exit, drive East. Left on Pacific Ave. and drive North to college entrance at Yokuts Ave.
DRUMMERS must bring cymbals, a complete hi hat, and bass drum pedal. Patch cords for guitars must be brought from home.
Complete uniform.... Spirit wear if you have it... And monStudents who come with all required music, instruments, good attitude, will be able to perform. Please encourage your student to be a responsible member of this fine band!
