Common Core and the Arts:
As we begin to see Common Core Standards being implemented in our schools, it is helpful to our children that they have a thriving performing arts program at SJMS that supports these new standards. Any time students are asked to make sense of their world, and incorporate music and the arts in their daily learning, student learning increases. An appreciation for the arts encourages exploration, self expression, logical thinking, self-esteem, imagination, and creativity. Experiences in the arts also teaches kids to think openly, create new meaning, be more tolerant of others’ differences, and gives them the courage to take risks. For more information on Common Core Standards in the NUSD, go to NUSD Common Core Standards
